Record Vintage Sports Card Sales at REA’s February Auction

Robert Edward Auctions (REA) hit a home run in its February auction, showcasing the ever-growing popularity and value of vintage sports cards and memorabilia. The auction’s standout star was a PSA 5 graded M116 Sporting Life Honus Wagner card, which fetched an impressive $75,000, setting a new record for its version and highlighting the strong demand for rare collectibles.

Not to be outdone, a Ty Cobb Blue Background card from the same M116 Sporting Life series, graded PSA GOOD 2, made waves of its own by smashing the record for its condition with a $15,000 sale. The auction drew in a crowd of registry builders and passionate collectors, especially with the offering of ten Mint 9 graded cards from the 196 Topps set. Among these, the #2 Roman Mejias PSA MINT 9 card stole the show with an impressive auction high of $19,200, marking the highest price for a non-Hall of Famer from this set in its grade.

Diversifying its lineup, REA’s auction featured a total of 2,732 items, appealing to a wide range of collectors. Other top sellers included a 1909-1911 T206 White Border Ty Cobb Portrait Red Background graded PSA VG-EX 4, which sold for $21,000, a 1934 R320 Goudey #37 Lou Gehrig graded PSA EX-MT 6, fetching $18,000, and a 1986-1987 Fleer Basketball Complete Set graded PSA NM-MT 8, selling for $12,000, among several other notable items.

Brian Dwyer, President of REA, expressed his delight at the auction’s success, noting the enthusiastic participation from the collector community. He also hinted at the exciting prospects lined up for REA’s upcoming events, including the March Encore event on March 14-24 and the Spring Catalog Auction starting on April 5. These events promise to continue providing thrilling opportunities for both seasoned collectors and hobby enthusiasts in the sports collectibles market.

In conclusion, REA’s February auction not only celebrated record-breaking sales of vintage sports cards and memorabilia but also paved the way for an exciting future in the world of sports collectibles. As the leading platform for collectors and enthusiasts alike, REA remains dedicated to showcasing exceptional items and creating memorable experiences in the hobby.
