A dark cloud loomed over the National Sports Collectors Convention in Cleveland when a shocking incident unfolded on the final day of the event. An unfortunate sports card dealer from New Jersey fell victim to a costly theft, reporting the disappearance of around $275,000 in cash from his vehicle on Sunday, July 28.
The disheartening incident took place at the I-X Center as the 48-year-old dealer was in the process of loading his SUV post-event. The stolen cash, accompanied by two iPads, lay within a black briefcase tucked inside his vehicle. Despite the dealer’s belief that he had securely locked his SUV, misfortune struck when the briefcase mysteriously vanished while he was momentarily away from his vehicle.
According to Cleveland Police First District detectives, the pilfered briefcase, equipped with an air tag, was eventually discovered on the premises of the I-X Center. However, the heart-sinking revelation followed as the significant sum of cash that had resided inside the now-recovered briefcase was nowhere to be found.
At present, law enforcement officials are on the hunt for two suspects spotted fleeing the crime scene in a blue Honda Odyssey van. The search continues to apprehend these individuals responsible for the bold theft at the sports convention.
Individuals possessing any relevant information regarding the theft are strongly urged to reach out to the First District Detective Unit at (216) 623-5118 or provide tips anonymously through the Crime Stoppers tip line at (216) 252-7463.
