PWCC Sets New Record with Michael Jordan Card Sale

PWCC Marketplace’s November Premier Auction has once again made headlines with an impressive sale of a Michael Jordan card. The 1998 Skybox Premium Stars Rubies edition, a highly sought-after basketball collectible, was sold for an astounding $216,000, setting a new record for this particular parallel card. It now ranks as the second most expensive Star Rubies card ever sold.

The 1998 Skybox Premium Stars Rubies card series holds significant value among collectors, thanks to its introduction of serial-numbered cards. This innovation created rarity within the hobby, with the Star Rubies and Skybox’s Precious Metal Gems cards leading the way. With its limited edition of just 50 cards, this particular Michael Jordan card captured the attention of passionate collectors.

What makes the 1998 release even more special is that it was the final Skybox set to feature Michael Jordan before his retirement in 1998. This adds a unique appeal to the cards from this set, as they represent the culmination of Jordan’s incredible career. The intricate foil details and edge-to-edge design of the cards make them particularly susceptible to wear, further increasing their rarity and value.

The record-breaking Jordan card in this auction received an impressive PSA 7 grade. It is categorized as a Pop 4, meaning only four cards of this type have received the same grade, and there are only five others graded higher. This rarity and the high grade contributed to the card’s immense value, attracting collectors who are passionate about owning a piece of basketball history.

In addition to the Michael Jordan card, the auction showcased other noteworthy collectibles that achieved remarkable prices. A PSA 1 (MC) graded 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle #311 card, despite its less-than-perfect condition, fetched an impressive $35,400. This shows that even cards with lower grades can still command significant attention and value.

Another record was set with the sale of a 1999 Upper Deck Game Jerseys patch auto card featuring Kobe Bryant, which sold for $32,700. This card, combining an autograph and a game-worn patch, is highly sought-after among collectors who admire Bryant’s immense talent and impact on the sport.

The auction also featured a 2020 Topps Dynasty F1 card showcasing Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, two prominent figures in Formula 1 racing. This card garnered considerable attention and achieved a price of $20,400. It highlights the growing interest in collecting cards from various sports, beyond just traditional baseball and basketball.

PWCC Marketplace continues to be a leading platform for collectors and enthusiasts who value rare and high-quality sports cards. Their November Premier Auction demonstrated once again the strength of the market, with the record-breaking sale of the Michael Jordan card and the impressive prices achieved for other collectibles. As the demand for these unique pieces of sports memorabilia continues to grow, PWCC Marketplace remains a trusted destination for both buyers and sellers alike.
