Heritage Auctions Unveils Rare Baseball Cards in Summer Auction

Heritage Auctions is set to host an exceptional event for sports card collectors, with their upcoming Summer Sports Card Catalog Auction scheduled for July 12-13. The auction promises a remarkable selection of rare and sought-after baseball cards that are sure to intrigue enthusiasts and collectors alike.

Among the standout pieces featured in the auction is a mint-condition 1952 Topps Jackie Robinson card, a gem-mint Michael Jordan Fleer rookie card, and a gem-mint chrome rookie card signed by a young Bryce Harper. These cards are highly coveted items in the world of sports memorabilia, showcasing iconic players and moments in sports history.

The auction will also include sealed packs, boxes, and cases that hold the potential of uncovering hidden treasures for collectors. Signed Shohei Ohtani cards and best-of-the-best Ty Cobb tobacco cards are among the exciting offerings that add to the allure of this summer auction. Notably, the auction will feature Babe Ruth’s “Called Shot” jersey, further enriching the array of Hall of Fame treasures available.

A unique highlight of the auction is a collection of 1959 baseball cards that were once stapled to containers of Canadian cookies. These cards, known for their rarity with only 69 in the PSA population report, include 37 cards in this auction. Featuring legendary players like Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, and Yogi Berra, these cards carry historical significance and appeal to collectors worldwide.

The Dad’s Cookies cards, originally produced by Exhibits Supply Company in 1959, hold a special place in the realm of sports memorabilia. These cards were distributed by Dad’s Cookies as promotional items stapled to bags and boxes of cookies, adding to their scarcity and desirability among collectors. Heritage’s Executive Vice President in Sports, Joe Orlando, emphasizes the thrill of discovering such hidden gems, stating that these cards represent the essence of treasure hunting in the collectibles world.

In addition to the Dad’s Cookies cards, the auction will showcase two of the most sought-after Ty Cobb T206 cards from the early 1900s. The El Principe de Gales Ty Cobb and the American Beauty Portrait-Red Cobb are rare and highly prized examples, with the latter being the highest-graded specimen of its kind. These cards represent a significant opportunity for collectors to acquire pieces of baseball history.

Collectors can also look forward to sealed boxes and cases at the auction, including the 1970 Topps Baseball Wax Box and newer boxes like the 2015 Upper Deck Hockey Series 1 Hobby Unopened Case and the 2020 Panini Flawless Football Factory Sealed Case. These items offer the allure of uncovering rare and valuable cards, providing a sense of nostalgia and excitement for collectors who enjoy the thrill of discovery.

Heritage Auctions’ Summer Sports Card Catalog Auction is set to be an unforgettable event for sports memorabilia enthusiasts, offering a rare chance to acquire some of the most elusive and valuable baseball cards in existence. With a diverse array of items ranging from classic cards to sealed boxes, this auction promises excitement and intrigue for collectors of all interests and preferences.
