Shohei Ohtani Dominates 2023’s Most Graded Trading Cards, with Fields and Lawrence Making Waves

In the world of trading cards, 2023 has proven to be another successful year for card-grading giants PSA and ISA. PSA, in particular, has released the list of the top 10 athletes and cards based on submissions, with one player standing above the rest. That player is none other than MLB superstar Shohei Ohtani, known for his outstanding pitching and hitting abilities. Ohtani, who recently signed a record-breaking $700 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers, has become the most sought-after athlete by collectors, making him the most submitted player to PSA this year. His 2018 Topps #700 Pitching card, in particular, has gained significant attention and has become highly coveted by card enthusiasts. Ohtani’s dominance is evident as he holds four spots in the top 10 most graded sports cards of the year.

While Ohtani steals the spotlight, basketball legend Michael Jordan remains a prominent figure in card submissions. Jordan’s 1990 Fleer card continues to be a collector’s favorite, ensuring his place in the top 10 athletes for 2023. Joining them are rising stars like Julio Rodriguez, Trevor Lawrence, Joe Burrow, Tom Brady, Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Ken Griffey Jr., and Patrick Mahomes II. These athletes have garnered significant interest from collectors and have solidified their positions in the trading card industry.

When it comes to the most graded sports cards of 2023, Ohtani’s presence remains strong. His 2018 Bowman #49 and 2018 Topps Update US285 cards continue to generate excitement among collectors. However, other notable cards have also made their mark this year. The 2022 Bowman Chrome Prospects BCP50 Elly De La Cruz card has captured the attention of many, as well as the iconic 1989 Upper Deck #1 Ken Griffey Jr. Star Rookie card. These cards, along with Ohtani’s, have become highly sought-after pieces in the trading card market.

In the realm of football card submissions, two quarterbacks have emerged as rising stars in 2023. Justin Fields, the talented quarterback for the Chicago Bears, has experienced a remarkable 119% increase in submissions compared to the previous year. Fields’ popularity among collectors is undeniable, as he continues to make waves in the trading card industry. Another quarterback making a name for himself is Trevor Lawrence, who plays for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Lawrence has seen a significant 98% increase in submissions, cementing his place as one of the most promising football players in the trading card market. It’s clear that football enthusiasts and collectors are eager to get their hands on these rising stars’ cards.

Not only are established athletes and rising stars making waves, but rookie cards are also dominating the grading submissions across sports. In basketball, Paolo Banchero and Victor Wembanyama’s rookie cards have become highly sought-after pieces for collectors. Football enthusiasts have their eyes on Kenny Pickett and Brock Purdy, whose rookie cards have made a splash in the trading card industry. In baseball, Elly De La Cruz and Adley Rutschman have emerged as the top rookie card submissions, capturing the attention of trading card enthusiasts worldwide.

As 2023 unfolds, the trading card industry continues to thrive, with Shohei Ohtani leading the pack in submissions. Alongside Ohtani, newcomers like Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence are gaining momentum, creating excitement and raising the stakes in the world of trading card collecting. Whether it’s the most graded sports cards or the coveted rookie cards, collectors eagerly anticipate the next big sensation to add to their collections.
